VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ashanti Gold Corp. (“Ashanti,” “AGZ” or the “Company”) - (TSXV:AGZ) announces excellent new results of its on-going exploration program at Kossanto East. Results for 450 soil geochemical samples have been received and are in addition to 386 samples reported in February (see News Release dated February 13, 2018). These results enhance the existing targets by improving the continuity within anomalous zones as well as enlarging target width and strike length (Figure 1). In particular, strong sample results define a new prominent gold zone parallel to and southwest of Gourbassi East. Here, numerous samples report values greater than 0.1 g/t Au in soil, with two samples (SGE10554 and SGE10556) reporting in excess of 5 g/t. “These excellent results support the Company’s contention that considerably more gold mineralization is present at and around the Gourbassi East and Gourbassi West targets,” said Dr. Paul Klipfel, the Company’s COO and Chief Geologist.
Put into context, the new prominent gold zone, identified by this soil sample campaign, parallel to and southwest of Gourbassi East, is approximately the same overall size as the Gourbassi East mineralized zone. Gourbassi East, outlined with a black oval in Figures 1, 2 and 3, extends approximately one kilometre. For further information on Gourbassi East, please see press releases from August 2, 2017 and August 10, 2017.
These results are part of the Company’s comprehensive campaign of soil, rock, and trench sampling designed to advance the Gourbassi East and Gourbassi West mineralized areas as well as evaluate the potential of other targets on the property. Approximately 350 additional samples are currently being collected to further increase the fidelity within anomalous gold zones. These results will help guide drilling planned for next quarter and prioritize satellite targets for their potential to duplicate the mineralization identified at Gourbassi East and West.
