Sherritt Reports Fatality at its Power Generation Operations

Sherritt International Corporation ("Sherritt") (TSX:S) regrets to announce the death of an employee at the Energas S.A. power generation operations in Cuba due to an apparent electrocution while completing maintenance activities.

"We are deeply saddened by the news and have extended our condolences to the employee's family, friends and co-workers," said David Pathe, President and CEO of Sherritt International. "Employee health and safety are of paramount importance to us, and we will make every effort to never repeat this tragic accident."

Sherritt has initiated an investigation and is working with local authorities to determine the cause of the accident.

Sherritt's power generation assets in Cuba are held through its one-third interest in Energas S.A., a Cuban joint arrangement established to process raw natural gas and generate electricity for sale to the Cuban national grid. Cuban government agencies Uni??n El?(C)ctrica and Uni??n Cuba-Petr??loeo hold the remaining two-thirds interest in Energas.
