Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold Dips While Silver Holds Steady Again

The Metals:

Gold dropped $8 to $1261.50 by a little after 8AM EST before it rallied back higher throughout most of trade in New York, but it still ended with a loss of 0.17%. Silver fell to $16.18 in Asia before it rallied to as high as $16.358 in early afternoon New York trade and then edged back lower into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 0.06%.

Euro gold fell to about EUR1091, platinum lost $6.50 to $861, and copper dropped a penny to about $3.03.

Gold and silver equities ended modestly lower in mixed trade.

The Economy:

Leading indicators up in May, still short of expectations CNBC

U.S. jobless claims fall; mid-Atlantic manufacturing slows Reuters

Tomorrow brings Markit manufacturing PMI and services.

The Markets:

Oil saw slight losses ahead of tomorrow's OPEC meeting.

The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries rose on poor manufacturing data.

The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lost nearly 1% on trade tensions and mostly disappointing company news.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Daimler, Darden Restaurants, Micron, Amazon, and Intel.
