Gold Seeker Weekly Wrap-Up: Gold and Silver Gain with Stocks and Oil on the Week

The Metals:

Gold gained $11.30 to $1333.10 in London before it pared back to $1324.70 at about 9AM EST, but it then climbed to a new session high of $1339.30 in afternoon New York trade and ended with a gain of 1.23%. Silver rose to as high as $17.283 and ended with a gain of 1.53%.

Euro gold fell to about EUR1098, platinum gained $10 to $992, and copper dropped a penny to about $3.21.

Gold and silver equities gained throughout the day and ended almost 3% higher.

The Economy:

US business inventories rise in November CNBC

U.S. Core Inflation Accelerates Bloomberg

Gain in U.S. December Retail Sales Caps Robust Holiday Season Bloomberg

Next week's economic highlights include Empire State Manufacturing on Tuesday, Industrial Production, the Housing Market Index, and the fed's Beige Book on Wednesday, Initial Jobless Claims, Housing Starts, and the Philadelphia Fed on Thursday, and Consumer Sentiment on Friday.

The Markets:

Oil continued higher on tightening supplies.

The U.S. dollar index fell markedly as the euro rose on political progress in Germany and Great Britain.

Treasuries held near unchanged while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P soared to new highs on strong earnings reports.

Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Delta, Wells Fargo, PNC, BlackRock, JPMorgan, and Facebook.
