SHANGHAI, May 3 (SMM) – Just one company received approval to import copper scrap in the 11th batch of approvals for restricted solid scrap material imports released on Thursday May 3, SMM learned.

The company, located in Qingyuan city in Guangdong province, was approved to import 6,862 mt of copper scrap this year.

Overall approved copper scrap imports in the 11 batches this year amounted to 470,500 mt, down some 84% from the 3.01 million mt approved in 11 batches last year.

A total of 11 batches of approvals were released in 2017. It is unclear if further approvals will be issued this this year.

In March, imports of Category Seven copper scrap materials fell about 70% from the same period last year, as China banned imports of 16 scrap metals from April 19.
