$16,000 a carat for Lab Growns Made from FC Barcelona's Grass

(IDEX Online) - The world famous FC Barcelona soccer team is to turn the grass from its Nou Camp stadium into ultra-high priced lab grown diamonds.The pitch will be ripped up during a major renovation which will increase its capacity to 105,000.The grass will be used to produce 1,957 lab growns - a nod to the year the stadium was built.Among them will be a limited edition of 57 one-carat stones, which will be sold at the very premium price of $16,400 (EUR 15,000) according to the Mundo Deportivo newspaper.The gems, which will take just a week to grow, will be used to make gold and white gold pins, bracelets, cufflinks, rings, necklaces and shields in an enterprise that will net the champion club an estimated $30m.
