(Kitco News)- Advances in mineral exploration appear to be moving at abreakneck pace and mining industry leaders think 3D drilling and mapping technologyhas the potential to disrupt the mining sector.

Acoustic Zoom, with its innovative ultra-high-frequency 3Ddrill hole seismic imaging technology, impressed a panel of judges atGoldcorp’s #Disruptmining event during the 2018 Prospectors & DevelopersAssociation of Canada (PDAC) convention. Acoustic Zoom now has the opportunityto sit down with Goldcorp executives to negotiate up to a $1 capitalinvestment.

“Our vision is to give confidence to investors byaugmenting the value of drill results using our innovative acoustictechnology,” said Jacques Guign?(C), CEO and Chief Scientist Professor, AcousticZoom. “Our technology maps deep within the earth’s microstructure, helpingexploration teams drill smarter, guide planning and achieve investment valuequick. We are thrilled that Goldcorp and the judging panel of industry titanssee this value and champion our vision.”

What makes Acoustic Zoom’s rise to prominence in themining sector is the journey it has taken to achieve this goal. Although thecompany was a semi-finalist in 2017, its plan wasn’t refined enough to have atechnical application in the field. However, the company spent the past yearperfecting its technology and managed to reduce its costs by 90%.

In one year, an idea on paper has now turned into a viablestrategy for one of the world’s largest gold producers.

“Technologies like the one presented by Acoustic Zoom willget us to our vision of being a technology company - and a mining company -faster,” said Todd White, COO, Goldcorp.

Whites added that he was impressed with four finalists inthis year’s competition.

“Eachof the finalists brought something unique to the challenge making thedeliberation process difficult for the judges,” he said. “It was crystal clearat the #DisruptMining finale last night that disruptors are responding to ourcall to innovate.”
