Asian slab prices fall on weak demand, ample supply

Import prices for steel slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia declined over the past week, mainly due to low buying interest and bearish sentiment among re-rollers.

Adding to the downward pressure on prices was the ample supply of slab offered to the region despite Brazilian producers exiting the Asian market.Fastmarkets MB's import price assessment for slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia was $475-485 per tonne cfr for the week ended Monday October 22, down by $15 per tonne from a week earlier.A few large shipments of Asia-origin slab were heard to have been sold at $480 per tonne cfr to re-rollers...
