(IDEX Online) - A host of top-flight jewelers have signed a pledge to improve the traceability of colored gemstones. The Gemstones and Jewellery Community Platform has been launched by industry body Coloured Gemstones Working Group (CGWG) to unite brands through their "shared commitments for people and planet".It will provide practical help and guidance on responsible sourcing, which can be difficult because many colored gemstones are mined in remote areas by artisanal workers.  Among the signatories are Chopard, Kering, LVMH, Richemont, Swarovski and Tiffany & Co. (now part of the LVMH Group)."Our objective is to democratise sustainability, so it is accessible to even the smallest businesses and the individual crafts person," said Dr Assheton Stewart Carter, CEO of TDI Sustainability, which is providing technical support."By providing access to knowledge, we can take a step towards transforming the lives and livelihoods of people working across the coloured gemstone supply chain."
