Brazilian flat steelmakers are granting 5-6% discounts, sources say

Rumors have become stronger recently that discounts are being offered on flat steel prices in Brazil, Fastmarkets heard on Thursday November 29. Imported material has lost value and this has caused competition to intensify in the country, sources reported.

Companhia Sider??rgica Nacional (CSN) is the main steelmaker granting price discounts to distributors at an average of 5-6% for all flat products, several sources told Fastmarkets. CSN, however, denies that it is lowering its prices.There have been no clear signs yet to indicate how the other large Brazilian flat steel producers, Usiminas and ArcelorMittal, are handling their prices, considering the rumored discounts.Although the steelmakers seem to be trying to gain market...
