Busy Week Ahead With Fed Minutes, Netflix Earnings in the Spotlight

The Fed's September meeting minutes will be released next week, with Wall Street expected to search for clues to the pace of future rate hikes. Traders will also digest monthly retail sales and housing data. Meanwhile, earnings season kicks into gear, with several big names reporting, including Dow members American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), and Procter & Gamble Co (NYSE:PG), as well as FAANG name Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX).

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Monday, Oct. 15, will bring retail sales, the New York manufacturing survey, and business inventories. Bank of America (BAC) and Charles Schwab (SCHW) are scheduled to report earnings.

It'll be a busy day for economic data on Tuesday, Oct. 16, with industrial production numbers, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) housing market index, the Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), and Treasury International Capital (TIC) data.

The day remains just as active for quarterly earnings reports, with blue chips Goldman Sachs (GS), IBM (IBM), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), and UnitedHealth (UNH) reporting. In addition, Netflix (NFLX), BlackRock (BLK), CSX (CSX), eBay (EBAY), Morgan Stanley (MS), Lam Research (LRCX),Progressive (PGR), and United Continental (UAL) will also roll out earnings.

Housing starts, the weekly crude inventories report, and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes are slated for Wednesday, Oct. 17. Alcoa (AA), Steel Dynamics (STLD), United Rentals (URI), and U.S. Bancorp (USB) will report earnings.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, traders will take in weekly jobless claims, the Philadelphia Fed business outlook survey, and the Fed balance sheet. St. Louis Fed President James Bullard will speak.

It'll be a voluminous day for earnings reports, with American Express (AXP), Travelers (TRV), Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), PayPal (PYPL), E*Trade (ETFC), KeyCorp (KEY), Limelight Networks (LLNW), Nucor (NUE), Philip Morris (PM), Skechers USA (SKX) and Sonoco(SON) all reporting.

Friday, Oct. 19, will feature reports on existing home sales. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic is scheduled to speak. Dow member Procter & Gamble (PG) will step into the earnings confessional, as well as Honeywell (HON), Schlumberger (SLB), and State Street (STT).
