CHINA COKING COAL: Domestic prices stable amid balanced fundamentals

China's domestic coking coal prices were relatively stable in the month of June despite adjustments to assessment prices due to time lag as a result of their relatively static nature compared with their seaborne counterparts, sources said.

Metal Bulletin's weekly assessment of domestic prices for hard coking coal in Shanxi delivered to Tangshan stood at 1,390-1,750 yuan per tonne on Thursday June 28, compared with 1,360-1,800 yuan per tonne on May 25. The lower end of the assessment had risen by 30 yuan per tonne in the beginning of June due to higher coke prices in the month of May, market sources said. "Domestic coking coal prices have always been less responsive when compared with seaborne prices. This 30 yuan per tonne rise was as a result of a time lag," the cokery procurement source told Metal Bulletin. On the other hand, the higher end of the assessment fell by around 50 yuan per tonne due to trades during that week.
