RAPAPORT... The World JewelleryConfederation (CIBJO) has produced a special report on ethics ahead of its annualcongress in Bahrain next month."Weaving It All Together: An Ethical Status Report at the End of2019," released on Wednesday, covers a variety of topics, ranging frominternational frameworks to advertising and disclosure. Its author is TiffanyStevens, president of CIBJO's ethics commission and CEO of the JewelersVigilance Committee.Key recommendations include adherence to"industry-specific tools" such as CIBJO's own responsible-sourcing guidelines. The standards wereissued in January and are underpinned by due-diligence principles set out bythe Organisation for Economic Co-operation andDevelopment (OECD).The report also advocates a three-step process forethical disclosure, incorporating due diligence of the supply chain, acomprehensive internal risk assessment, and "clear andeffective communication on these results to the next party to receive the goods.""Weaving It All Together" is the sixth in a series of specialreports CIBJO has issued weekly in the run-up to its annual congress. Othersinclude a special diamond report, published October 2, which examines the"fault line" between natural and lab-grown stones.Image: Tiffany Stevens. (Jewelers Vigilance Committee)
