Bridging the gender gap in mining starts with educating young women about the industry as early as possible, according to Angelina Mehta, a board member of Women In Mining Canada, a non-profit organization focused on advancing the interests of women in the metals and mining sector.
"Our whole objective with Women In Mining Canada is to build relationships and be collaborative with other organizations that are aligned. So, we talk to universities all the time, we have student branches across this country," Mehta told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Mines & Money conference in Toronto, "The Women In Mining Toronto student branch has been very active, there's one at McGill, and every month it seems like there's a new group, mainly mining engineering schools, but also finance, and law and other groups that participate in mining that want to come on board and encourage students at the education level."
