China cobalt sulfate price softens from a brief turnaround

The China cobalt sulfate price has softened from the brief momentum of activity between late March and mid-April due to lackluster demand.

The Metal Bulletin cobalt sulfate, 20.5% min Co, ex-works China, price is calculated as an adjustment to the low end of Metal Bulletin's existing benchmark low-grade cobalt price assessment on a 20.5% Co basis, which was assessed at a discount of $0.51-0.82 per lb on Wednesday May 2. Mainstream domestic quotations for cobalt sulfate in China were at around 132,000-137,000 yuan ($20,750-21,536) per tonne during the mid-week pricing session. The assessment turned from a discount to a premium briefly in the past few weeks and hit a peak at a premium of $0.01-0.32 per lb on April 11, before it retreated and widened the discount, according to the historical data collected by Metal Bulletin ahead of the launch of the price.
