Major Chinese stainless steel mills Tsingshan Group, Baosteel and Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Tisco) have lowered their high-carbon ferro-chrome monthly tender prices for May delivery due to the uncertain outlook for the stainless steel market and the expectation of wider availability of ferro-chrome and chrome ore in the domestic market.
Tsingshan has set its May high-carbon ferro-chrome tender price at 6,896 yuan ($1,085) per tonne, a decrease of 480 per tonne from the previous month.Baosteel bid 6,900 yuan per tonne for the same material, down by 600 yuan per tonne from 7,500 yuan per tonne in April.Tisco similarly lowered its bidding price for high-carbon ferro-chrome for the month of May, setting a price of 6,646 yuan per tonne.
