The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a discouraging 74-107-110. The TSX Venture Exchange gained four points to 890 while polished diamond prices were flat. Ken MacNeill and George Read's Shore Gold Inc. (SGF) dropped one cent to 16.5 cents on 351,000 shares. There is no news, but the company is expecting to start another large diameter drill program at Star, in central Saskatchewan, this year.

Dermot Desmond and David Whittle's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) gained 11 cents to $3.55 on 1.63 million shares. The company and its 51-per-cent co-venturer, De Beers Canada, were saved by the grade yet again at their Gahcho Kue mine, 250 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. The mine, which has been averaging barely half its projected rough diamond value since it opened late in 2016, has been doing about 30 per cent better with its grade -- enough that the mine is managing to generate significant operating income.
