The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a ho-hum 70-80-144. The TSX Venture Exchange fell fractionally to 771 while polished diamond prices fell 0.2 per cent. Hugh Stoyell and Johnny Blizzard's Katanga Mining Ltd. (KAT), which has lost $4-billion in market value this year thanks to its financial woes, gained two cents to 92 cents on 2.66 million shares.
Dr. Stewart Blusson's Archon Minerals Ltd. (ACS), which last traded April 24, losing one cent to $1.30 on 1,000 shares, is hopeful that new exploration on the Buffer claims at Ekati will add to the company's royalty payments from Dominion Diamond Corp., now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dennis Washington's Washington Group. (The stock, which trades on average once every two weeks is held tightly, with Dr. Blusson owning nearly 34 million of the company's 54 million shares, the Almoner Foundation another 8.6 million and Dr. Blusson's brother, Ross Blusson, holding nearly one million more.)
