EUROPE SECTIONS: Northern EU prices down $6 per tonne as buyers drive hard bargains

Prices for hollow steel sections in Northern Europe have fallen by ?,?5 ($6) per tonne this week, with some mills accepting lower bids to secure orders, market participants told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday March 14.

Meanwhile, Southern European prices widened upward by ?,?5 per tonne, with the large Italian mills being more successful in driving up their offer prices, sources said.Metal Bulletin's price assessment for Northern European domestic commodity hollow sections moved down to ?,?645-665 ($797-822) per tonne delivered on Wednesday, compared with ?,?650-670 per tonne delivered last week."Mills can book relatively well, but everything depends on price," one Northern European distributor said.If producers agree to reduce their selling prices, they will be able to secure the orders they want, he added.The distributor had heard that one mill offering at ?,?665 per...
