FedEx Deal to Boost Indian Exports

(IDEX Online) - Indian manufacturers are piloting a partnership with FedEx for direct and affordable doorstep deliveries of jewelry or loose diamonds worldwide.The GJEPC (Gem & Jewellery Export Council) says the move, designed to cut out the middleman and boost exports, will allow its members to send an $800 parcel for as little as $24.The initiative is initially open to the GJEPC's 2,200 members in Gujurat state. The plan is to roll it out to the rest of the country.  "The operation will be run in such a way that a piece of jewellery or loose diamond that is placed on the e-commerce site by a trader from Surat or any other Gujarat city can be bought by someone, say a New York resident, by entering into a business deal with the seller," GJEPC Gujarat assistant director Rajant Wani told The Indian Express.Delivery to any part of the US will be made within seven days of despatch.
