RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has appointedMark Buntz senior vice president and chief marketing officer, to drive thefuture of the organization's brand. A marketing veteran with more than 20 years of experience inglobal brand marketing, advertising, communications, sales and broadcasting,Buntz is tasked with supporting the expansion of the GIA's education,laboratory services, and instruments businesses into new markets. He will alsobe responsible for extending GIA's 4Cs of Diamond Quality consumer outreachprogram, the organization said Monday. Buntz previously worked for TaylorMade Golf Company as vicepresident of global brand marketing, and has held executive positions withESPN, NBC Universal and Hulu. "Mark brings invaluable expertise with leading companieswhich have reached pinnacles of success in their fields," said GIA CEO SusanJacques. "He is a proven innovator and a passionate storyteller who, with hisenthusiasm and new perspective, will help advance GIA's initiatives to connectwith consumers and the gem and jewelry industry." Buntz succeeds Kathryn Kimmel, who retired in August after30 years with the GIA. He will be based at the institute's headquarters in Carlsbad, California, and will report to Jacques.
