GLOBAL CHROME WRAP: Charge chrome import prices stand firm while Chinese ferro-chrome slides

Imported charge chrome prices outperformed Chinese ferro-chrome on Friday March 16, after the domestic market took a poor view of demand from the stainless sector.

Metal Bulletin's charge chrome index cif Shanghai was stable at $1.03 per lb in Friday's pricing session. The strengthening rand has been supporting South African ores and alloys prices for months, particularly ferro-chrome. "Our cargoes are locked into long-term contracts and healthy booking orders mean we are confident of holding our offer price," a charge chrome supplier told Metal Bulletin. Meanwhile, Chinese spot domestic ferro-chrome market prices dropped due to high stainless steel inventories in Wuxi and Foshan districts which weighed on stainless steel prices.
