Silicon prices in China moved down over the past week on reduced demand, while European prices were mixed.
Chinese silicon export prices dropped due to sluggish demand after Japanese buying appetites waned.The Chinese grade 553 silicon export price fell 1.2% to $1,980-2,030 per tonne on Friday March 16 from $2,010-2,050 per tonne a week earlier.Despite low operational rates for grade 553 silicon production ahead of the rainy season, which starts in May and is when refineries in Southern China are able to use cheap hydropower, limited buying interest has kept aggressive quotations in check.
