Glencore Q1 cobalt production up 11% vs last year on Katanga restart

Glencore produced 7,000 tonnes of cobalt in the first quarter of 2018, up 11% from 6,300 tonnes in the same quarter of last year, according to the company's production report on Thursday May 3.

Production from its African copper assets contributed 6,100 tonnes of cobalt in the first quarter compared with 5,700 tonnes in the corresponding period of 2017. The rise in production was reflective of a 500-tonne contribution from Katanga - the cobalt circuit there delivered its first metal in March 2018 as scheduled, the company said. In December, Katanga Mining, in which Glencore owns a stake of around 86.33%, said it would invest $15.8 million to reduce bottlenecking at the cobalt processing circuit of Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) in Lualaba Province...
