New York spot gold fell $8.70 to $1,344.50 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 13.71 points to 802.83 while the TSX Gold Index fell 3.02 points to 187.59. Canadian gold miners lost ground today, although Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) bucked the trend, gaining 30 cents to $13.30 on 2.45 million shares.
Darin Wagner's Balmoral Resources Ltd. (BAR), down 18.5 cents to 28.5 cents on 8.2 million shares, has a maiden resource estimate for Martiniere, its gold project on the Detour trend in northwestern Quebec. The company lists 6.83 million tonnes indicated at 1.96 grams of gold per tonne within an open-pit shell, with another 1.09 million tonnes indicated at 4.54 grams per tonne deemed an underground resource, most of which is limited to the upper 350 metres of the system. Balmoral also has 132,000 tonnes inferred at 2.5 grams per tonne as an open-pittable resource and another 231,000 tonnes at 5.75 grams per tonne inferred underground. In all, Martiniere hosts 644,000 ounces of gold, about three-quarters of them contained within the Bug deposit, the rest coming from the near-surface portion of Martiniere West.
