High prices drive 83% rise in Metinvest slab output despite loss of Donetsk assets

Ukrainian steelmaker Metinvest increased semi-finished steel output in the full year of 2017 by 22% year-on-year, to 2.76 million tonnes, mainly due to a rise in slab production, the company said in its latest report.

Metinvest produced 1.34 million tonnes of slabs in 2017, up by 83% year-on-year, amid favorable market conditions - in particular, higher prices.The average annual price for CIS export slab was $439.47 per tonne fob Black Sea in 2017, compared with $325.44 per tonne in 2016, according to Metal Bulletin's price archive.The producer also increased pig iron output in 2017 by 14% year-on-year, to 1.4 million...
