A little known fact is that Ireland is ripe with zinc and is a prime mining ground for the metal, this according to Bart Jaworski, CEO and director of Group Eleven Resources.
"A lot of people don't know this but Ireland is actually number one in terms of zinc found per square kilometer, so there's a lot of deposits that have been found over a relatively small area, so that gives it that distinction," Jowarski told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Swiss Mining Institute Conference in Geneva.
On uses for zinc, an innovative way to utilize the metal is starting to be used in fertilizing crops, especially in China, Jowarski noted.
"Zinc is starting to be used in fertilizers in China. Zinc is a nutrient for the human body. It's very critical for embryonic growth and just in general, metabolic processes, so if you add zinc to the ground that you're farming on, your yields go up and your nutrition value goes up," he said.
