(IDEX Online) - A $25,000 fund has been launched to help independent jewelers who have been victims of looting in the USA.

The appeal is being jointly run by the trade associations Jewelers of America and Diamond Council of America.

The Jewelers' Relief Fund has so far raised $13,350, boosted by a $10,000 donation from the De Beers Group jeweler Forevermark US.

Jewlelry stores in Minneapolis and across the USA have been targeted by rioters and looters following the death of George Floyd.

The appeal, on a gofundme page, says: "It's our mission to help jewelers in times of success and distress, and we believe we are stronger together. Let's band together as a jewelry community and help fellow jewelers in their recovery efforts."

All contributions are tax deductible and 100% of proceeds will be distributed to independent jewelers who have been impacted severely by the recent events.
