Jwaneng Chief to Head Debswana

RAPAPORT... Debswana, De Beers' Botswana joint venture, has appointedJwaneng mine chief Albert Milton as managing director. Milton will take up the position on December 1, succeedingBalisi Bonyongo, who is retiring, De Beers said Wednesday. Bonyongo will remainat Debswana as a consultant for three months, the miner added. Milton has worked at Debswana for more than 25 years, andhas been general manager of the Jwaneng asset in Botswana since 2013. He hasheld management positions at a number of other De Beers projects, including theOrapa, Venetia, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines. De Beers and the Botswana government each own half ofDebswana, which contributed 68% of De Beers' production in the first ninemonths of 2018. "Albert will be taking all his many years of outstandingexperience in the organization to lead Debswana in its next chapter," said BruceCleaver, CEO of De Beers and chairman of Debswana. "There are very excitingtimes ahead for Debswana, with a huge [number] of opportunities on the horizon,and I believe Albert is the ideal candidate to take the business forward andmaximize its potential."
