RAPAPORT... Lucapa Diamond Company has recovered a 204-carat rough from its Mothae mine in Lesotho, the second-largest high-quality stone it has found at the deposit. The white diamond is the third stone over 200 carats the miner has unearthed since it began commercial operations at the site in 2019, it said Wednesday. It discovered a 215-carat, D-color, type IIa rough in February 2021 and a 220-carat, low-quality diamond in November 2019 during the reprocessing of ore tailings. Including the 204-carat stone, Lucapa has recovered eight diamonds weighing more than 100 carats from Mothae, it noted. The miner will sell the stone to Graff-owned subsidiary Safdico, which is contracted to buy all Mothae rough for a two-and-a-half-year period under a supply agreement the parties reached last year. The deal also encompasses up to 60% of production from Lucapa's Lulo mine in Angola.Image: The 204-carat rough diamond. (Lucapa Diamond Company)
