(IDEX Online) - The world's largest black lab-grown diamond has been by produced by UK-based Meylor, weighing in at just under 116 carats.The 115.65-carat (29.40mm x 27.90mm x 23.44mm) Type IIb rough crystal was graded by the International Gemological Institute (IGI) and has been recognized by Guinness World Records. The company also produced a second, slightly smaller black diamond, at 109.58 carats. It now aims to use HPHT technology to grow a gem over 200 carats.Meylor, an international supplier of lab grown diamonds, already held the record the biggest lab-grown diamond - a 20.23 carat (fancy vivid yellowish orange, VS1, cut from a rough extra large single-crystal diamond weighing 55.94 carats.It has also produced a fancy deep blue SI1 emerald-cut 10.07-carat diamond and an E-color VS1 square emerald-cut 10.02-carat diamond."The innovative approach in physical chemistry of diamond growth combined with sophisticated technological methods and advanced high pressure equipment allowed us to obtain record-breaking extra large diamond single crystals," said global CEO Yuliya Kusher.Pic showing the two black lab-growns, courtesy IGI
