The mining sector's future performance will be based on fundamentals that are independent from the cannabis or crypto markets, said Michael White, president and CEO of IBK Capital.
"Mining is cyclical. We are going through a cycle. We've been through many years of a downturn. I believe that we are skipping along the bottom now, and we're ready to turn. I think 2015 was the bottom, 2016 was a good year in terms of coming off that bottom. 2017 was flat, and 2018, we drifted down a little bit," White told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Mines & Money conference in Toronto.
White added that another catalyst that is needed for investor interest to return to the mining sector is the discovery of new deposits.
