Ontario's government is working for the people of Northern Ontario by supporting tourism and economic development in Sault Ste. Marie with an investment in the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, creating three new jobs.

Today, Ross Romano, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, announced an investment of $507,600 to help the Bushplane Centre develop new exhibit space and expand its operations.

The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre commemorates Canada's bushplane and fire protection heritage. Through this investment, the centre will create new exhibits to increase visitation, membership and revenues. The centre will also build new infrastructure to allow it to book larger events such as workshops, conferences and weddings.

"Ontario recognizes that tourism is a significant economic driver in many northern communities," said PA Romano. "The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre is an important tourism attraction in Sault Ste. Marie. We are pleased to invest in its efforts to attract more visitors to the region and boost revenues. We are sending a strong signal to the world that Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario are open for business."

"We thank the province for investing in the expansion of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre," said Dan Ingram, executive director. "This investment will help us create new exhibit content and marketing materials to increase visitations as well as generate revenues from the rental of our improved indoor and outdoor spaces."
