Ontario's Government for the People is supporting economic development, job creation, and tourism in the Northwest by investing in necessary improvements to the Kenora Airport terminal.

Today, at the grand opening of the new terminal, Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, announced a $495,000 investment through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).

This includes $450,000 to help the Kenora Airport Authority complete essential engineering and design work for the new airport terminal building.

Minister Rickford announced $31,500 to help the Kenora Airport Authority hire a project planner dedicated to the economic development of the Airport, and $13,500 to support the Airport Management Council of Ontario with its annual convention and trade show in Kenora.

The four-day event runs between September 30 and October 3, 2018. The convention provides learning and networking opportunities for airport owners, municipalities, businesses and aviation experts.

"The Kenora Airport is a critical link to connecting Ontario's Northern rural communities to important economic hubs and services, bringing more visitors - which means more jobs and opportunities in Kenora and surrounding areas," said Minister Rickford.

"We thank the province for investing in the much-needed construction of our terminal building, which brings together many operations to better serve passengers, pilots and charter planes," said Don McDougald, Chair of the Kenora Airport Authority.
