The Chilean government has named Andr?(C) Sougarret as the new executive vice president of copper producer Empresa Nacional de Miner?-a (Enami), effective April 27.
Sougarret is currently general manager of Codelco's El Teniente division and is known in the industry for his key role in the rescue of the 33 miners trapped at the San Jos?(C) mine in Chile in 2010.He joins Enami at a challenging time for the state-owned firm, which has the mandate of supporting small and mid-sized miners in the country by buying concentrates from them which are later transformed into cathodes.Yet Enami's production fell short of expectations in 2017 and should remain at these lower levels in 2018, while the firm focuses on upgrading its Paipote smelter (Fundici??n Hern??n Videla Lira) in the Atacama Desert to capture more than 95% of gas emissions,...
