VANCOUVER - Pan American Silver Corp. shares slumped after it said it's curtailing operations at its Dolores mine in northern Mexico following security incidents along the access roads.

The Vancouver-based company says it has suspended personnel movements to and from the mine in Chihuahua state, but will maintain enough staff on site for security and reduced operating activities.

Workers were holed up at the mine over the weekend, afraid to leave because of threats by armed groups. The company says some employees had been evacuated on private planes.

Pan American says it is working with state and federal authorities to provide safe access to the mine.

The company said ore-stacking and processing at the open pit mine are still operating.

Pan American's share price slumped 93 cents or 3.98 per cent Monday to close at $22.44.
