RAPAPORT... The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is preparing a new 10-year plan for ensuring the organization and its members achieve the UN's sustainable-development goals (SDGs). The "Roadmap to 2030 and Beyond" will outline how the RJC intends to meet these goals, and how members can align their operations and reporting with them, the council said last week. The document will also explain how the RJC expects its work to produce results, with a focus on key SDGs such as those dealing with gender equality, working standards and climate change. The plan will also include a new set of metrics for assessing members' compliance with the RJC's ambitions."It is a clear pathway for our members on what we, collectively, want to achieve, and includes performance indicators to assess and measure progress, promote positive behavioral change, and to report performance more comprehensively," commented RJC executive director Iris van der Veken. The RJC has begun a consultation process with members that will last until February 28, 2021. It expects to release a final document toward the end of March 2021. The project, which coincides with the RJC's 15th anniversary, will also see the establishment of a task force focused on integrating the UN SDGs with the RJC's work. Two representatives of companies with RJC membership will cochair the panel, with strategic guidance from an external adviser. Council members will be able to nominate who they want to participate in the task force.Image: A jewelry store display. (Shutterstock)
