(IDEX Online) - Rio Tinto is facing four charges under Canada's Mine Health and Safety Act after a worker was seriously injured at Diavik.The first court appearance is scheduled for 19 March in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Rio Tinto owns and manages the Diavik Diamond Mine, which produces around 4.65m carats a year.The Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission, an arm's length government agency, alleges the mine failed to implement and maintain safe work practices and failed to take every reasonable measure to protect the health and safety of their employees."The charges were filed following an investigation by WSCC Safety Officers in relation to an incident that occurred on January 26, 2023, at the Diavik Diamond Mine near Lac de Gras that resulted in a serious worker injury," it said.We have approached Rio Tinto for comment.
