(IDEX Online) - Rio Tinto has announced its intention to take a majority ownership in the Star-Orion South diamond exploration site in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Saskatoon-based Star Diamond Corporation announced that Rio Tinto Exploration Canada Inc. (RTEC), a fully owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto, has provided notice to exercise its options under a Joint Venture agreement the two entered into in 2017. This would give it a 60-percent interest in the Star-Orion South project

Star Diamond said in a release that it is reviewing the notice from Rio Tinto and will provide further information following the completion of the review.
