Minerals Council president Mxolisi Mgojo announced the changes at the council's 128th annual general meeting on Wednesday and said the new logo and name had come after "extensive research".

"This change signals our desire to move forward, building a new legacy, and creating a future of which all South Africans can be proud," he said.

"And while we acknowledge our past, we do not accept that we cannot make things better for the future."

Exxaro Resources CEO Mgojo was re-elected as president at the AGM, while Royal Bafokeng Platinum CEO Steve Phiri, Anglo American South Africa executive head Andile Sangqu and Sibanye Stillwater CEO Neal Froneman were also re-elected as vice presidents.

The chamber council, now referred to as the board, saw a number of changes, including Kalagadi Manganese chairperson Daphne Mashile-Nkosi retiring and AngloGold CEO Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan stepping down.

New additions to the board include Vedanta Zinc CEO Deshnee Naidoo, AngloGold Ashanti COO Chris Sheppard and Orion Minerals CEO Errol Smart, with the latter elected by the council's newly-formed energy miners leadership forum, which represents emerging miners on the board.
