SOUTHERN EUROPE REBAR: Domestic prices widen downward as mills lower offers

Prices for rebar produced and delivered in Southern Europe have widened downward over the past week with Italian mills lowering their offers, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday May 23.

Metal Bulletin's weekly domestic price assessment for rebar in Southern Europe was ?,?485-520 ($572-613) per tonne delivered on Wednesday, down from ?,?490-520 per tonne on May 16."Italian steel producers tried to ask for a bit more but I think that the low demand will not allow them a price increase," one trader said.Domestic market demand in Italy and Spain remains low, market participants said."The scrap price hasn't fallen much, and no one is importing rebar right now, but domestic buyers want to push the price lower," a Southern European producer...
