SOUTHERN EUROPE REBAR: Mills lower offers ahead of expected surge in imports

Prices for rebar produced and delivered in Southern Europe weakened this week as domestic mills lowered their offers ahead of an expected influx of imports in July, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday June 26.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for domestic rebar in Southern Europe was ?,?490-500 ($558-569) per tonne delivered on Wednesday, down ?,?5-15 per tonne week on week from ?,?495-515 per tonne on June 19."The demand from buyers is there, but the price level where negotiations [for domestic material] will start will be lower," one Southern European producer source said."This is because there is already old imported material, which didn't make the previous quota period, and has been waiting at EU ports since April.
