Sherritt forecasts higher nickel, cobalt output in 2019

Sherritt International Corp expects to see an increase in both its nickel and cobalt production in 2019 after several factors including adverse weather conditions impacted output last year.

The Toronto, Canada-based company operates two nickel operations, the Moa joint venture in Cuba and the Ambatovy joint venture in Madagascar, with a combined capacity of more than 80,000 tonnes per year of nickel. Cobalt is a by-product of nickel production at these sites. The company is expecting nickel and cobalt production in 2019 at the Moa operation of 31,000-33,000 tonnes and 3,300-3,600 tonnes, respectively. This forecast is up by as much as 8% from 30,708 tonnes of nickel and up to 11% higher than the 3,234 tonnes of cobalt...
