Southeast Asian billet import prices edge up on higher offers

Import prices for steel billet in Southeast Asia were up slightly on Friday March 8 amid pressure from elevated offer levels, although some buyers were still unwilling to increase their bids this week, market participants said.

Fastmarkets' daily import price assessment for billet in Southeast Asia was $480-490 per tonne cfr Manila on Friday, widening upward by $5 per tonne from $480-485 per tonne cfr on Thursday. Higher offers were heard this week compared to last week, although buying interest remained thin and many re-rollers were still targeting the same or lower prices, sources said.
