The stainless steel sector's share of global primary nickel demand is set to decrease from 68% in 2017 to 60% in 2027, as demand from the battery sector surges.

Roskill said in a report that the stainless steel sector would remain the major consumer of primary nickel, mainly due to developments in China and Indonesia — where stainless steel mills were particularly reliant on primary sources of nickel in their production process.
