US cold-rolled, coated steel prices hold; market fears further declines

Cold-rolled coil and coated steel prices in the United States were unchanged over the past week, with market participants holding off their buying activity due to fears of potential further price drops ahead.

Fastmarkets AMM's weekly assessment for domestic cold-rolled coil remained at $40 per hundredweight ($800 per short ton) on Thursday May 9, unchanged from one week earlier. The domestic hot-dipped galvanized steel base price was assessed at $40.50 per cwt ($810 per ton) and the all-in price for galvanized coil with a G90 coating was at $45.25 per cwt ($905 per short ton) on Thursday, also flat from Fastmarkets AMM's previous assessments.Market participants reported mill lead times mostly for June delivery, at around eight weeks.Falling scrap, summer slowdownAlthough the market...
