US plate price inches up; peak feared near

The price for steel plate in the United States continues to gain ground but sources are increasingly questioning whether it might be at or near a peak.

Fastmarkets AMM assessed cut-to-length plate at $49.50 per hundredweight ($990 per short ton) on Friday November 9, up 1% from $49 per cwt previously and up 59.7% from $31 per cwt a year ago.The plate price last weighed in at $49.50 per cwt in October 2011, according to Fastmarkets AMM pricing records.Lead times are approximately four to eight weeks, market participant said.Mill offers for 2019 volumes are as high as $50.50 per cwt. But most deals are still occurring below $50 per cwt, with some below $48 per cwt, market participants said."I haven't sensed any...
