Vietnam's Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corp will add a considerable amount to Asia's billet supply with the full operational capacity of a new 1-million-tpy semi-continuous caster.
The new billet mill has a capacity of 1 million tonnes per year of various steel grades as part of its first phase. It will have a capacity of up to 2 million tpy after a second expansion, equipment maker SMS group said on October 30.The new mill produces square billets in 160mm and 180mm sizes, from blooms of 260mm x 300mm and 360mm x 450mm in size.Formosa Ha Tinh's billet production volumes spiked from August this year due to full operational activity at the billet mill.The facility produced 42,000 tonnes of billet in August, of which 23,000 tonnes was sold in the spot...
