A pig iron manufacturing facility in northern Brazil that was restarted in late June will have only occasional impact on the market because of its low production capacity, sources told Fastmarkets.
Ancora Siderurgica rented pig-iron manufacturing assets from Maraba Gusa Siderurgica (Maragusa) in Par?? state in northern Brazil and restarted output at the end of June. "They [Ancora] have low production capacity around 10,000-12,000 [tonnes] per month, these additional tonnages don't pressure the market," a source in Brazil told Fastmarkets. Over the first eight months of 2018, pig iron exports from Brazil were 1.14 million tonnes, the country's foreign trade ministry (MDIC) said.Of that amount, 60% or roughly 680,000 tonnes, was basic pig iron, another source said, while Ancora during that same period produced just 80,000-96,000 tonnes of pig iron.
