SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS South Africa's rand tumbled on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of an international nuclear deal with Iran hit global risk sentiment, but stocks closed stronger. MARKETS Nigeria's parliament aims to pass a long-delayed bill to overhaul the oil sector by the end of July, Senate President Bukola Saraki told Reuters. MARKETS The Kenyan shilling KES= weakened against the dollar on Wednesday amid increased shilling liquidity in the money markets, traders said. SAFARICOM Kenya's dominant telecoms operator, Safaricom SCOM.NR , predicted strong profit growth this year due to an easing of political tensions and hit back at mooted regulatory proposals to control data and call prices. FLOODS A dam burst overnight in a Kenyan town after heavy rain, causing "huge destruction" and deaths, a government official said on Thursday. COFFEE For generations, farmers planted the lush earth of Awedai and nearby areas in eastern Ethiopia with coffee trees, earning a livelihood from a crop that is now the country's main export. COCOA/CHINA Ghana's Cocobod is seeking up to $1.5 billion from China's Eximbank to improve farms and install irrigation systems and other projects, the regulator's chief executive Joseph Aidoo said on Wednesday. Ghana's annual consumer price inflation fell sharply to 9.6 percent in April from 10.4 percent the previous month, the statistics office said on Wednesday.
